Night at the Institute of Aviation: Bringing Ground Handling Closer Through Simulation
Last Friday, Airport Training Simulator joined the team at LS Airport Services S.A. during the Night at the Institute of Aviation at Łukasiewicz - ILOT in Warsaw.
The event brought together aviation enthusiasts, families, students and visitors interested in discovering more about aviation and the work happening behind the scenes at airports. For us, it was a great opportunity to show a different side of aviation: ground handling and the operations that take place on the apron every day.
As part of the LS Airport Services zone, visitors could explore different aspects of ground handling, see GSE equipment used in everyday airport operations, talk to LS Airport Services employees about their work, and experience selected ground handling tasks themselves using Airport Training Simulator.
Experiencing ground handling through simulation
For the event, we prepared a special version of Airport Training Simulator that allowed visitors to step into a virtual airport environment and try selected ground handling tasks themselves.
Simulation gives people an opportunity to experience airport operations from a different perspective. Instead of only watching how ground handling works, visitors could take the controls themselves and see what it is like to carry out tasks on the apron.
And it wasn’t only adults who were eager to give it a try. We welcomed a whole group of younger visitors who are already fascinated by aviation and everything that happens around it. For many of them, stepping into a digital airport environment and getting the chance to try their hand at operating on the apron was a completely new experience.
Seeing the excitement of the youngest visitors was especially rewarding. Events like this can be a great way to introduce the next generation to the many different roles and operations that make aviation possible, beyond what they see in the sky.
For some visitors, it was their first introduction to ground handling. Others already had a strong interest in aviation or were considering a future in the industry. That mix made the evening particularly interesting for us and gave us plenty of opportunities to talk about what happens on the apron and how simulation can support learning and training.
A full evening of aviation
The LS Airport Services zone offered much more than the simulator. Visitors could also experience aviation through VR, see GSE equipment up close, take part in an aviation quiz and speak directly with people working in ground handling.
It was great to see how many people stopped by throughout the evening, from those who already knew the aviation industry well to visitors discovering ground handling for the first time.
Events like the Night at the Institute of Aviation are a great reminder that aviation is much more than aircraft in the air. Behind every departure, there are dozens of people, vehicles, procedures and coordinated operations taking place on the ground.
Thank you, LS Airport Services
We would like to thank the entire LS Airport Services team for inviting us to be part of the event and for the great cooperation throughout the evening.
We were very happy to bring Airport Training Simulator to the Night at the Institute of Aviation and give visitors a chance to experience a small part of ground handling for themselves.
Until next time!
